Answer engine optimization is the work of putting a clear reply where Google can lift it: a featured snippet, a People Also Ask box, or a voice result. Ranking the URL is SEO. Being the sentence that is read out is AEO.

The questions under a search are not decoration. They are the brief. Indian owners already type them: do I need a website if WhatsApp takes orders, why the Maps pin is missing, Ads or Business Profile first.

AEO · the lift-able answer Snippet · one or two sentences People Also Ask · the brief Voice · the same sentence spoken

What an answer engine wants

  1. A heading that is the question, in the searcher’s words.
  2. One or two sentences that answer it, immediately under the heading.
  3. Then the steps, the exception, the link.

If the first paragraph is a story, there is nothing short to lift. Write the answer first. This site’s own FAQs follow that shape on purpose.

People Also Ask is the research

Open the query you care about. The expandable questions are what people ask next. Use those headings. Answer in the same nouns: website, WhatsApp, Google Business Profile, near me. Do not invent a clever synonym the searcher never typed.

Voice is the same block

“Is [shop] open?” is hours on the listing — that is SEO plus a complete Business Profile. “What is NAP in local SEO?” wants one spoken sentence. Write that sentence on the page. Do not hide it in a PDF.

AEO is not a new platform

It sits on the same pages as SEO. It is not GEO (a citation inside an AI answer). It is not IEO (which URL matches the job of the query). Four names, four jobs.

A short pass on an existing page

  1. List the questions the page should own.
  2. Turn each into an H2.
  3. Put a two-sentence answer under it before any list.
  4. Keep FAQPage schema in sync with the visible answers.

Frequently asked questions

What is answer engine optimization (AEO)?
AEO is writing a page so an answer engine can lift one clear reply: a featured snippet, a People Also Ask box, or a voice result. SEO gets the URL crawled. AEO is the sentence under the question heading.

How do I get a featured snippet?
Put the question as the heading. Answer it in one or two sentences immediately underneath, using the same words as the query. Then add the detail. Google’s snippet guidance is answer-first, not a story first.

What is People Also Ask?
The expandable questions under many Google results. They are the brief for the page. If owners keep asking “do I need a website if I have WhatsApp?”, that heading belongs on the page with a two-sentence answer.

Does voice search matter for a local shop?
Yes for hours, location, and whether you are open. “Hey Google, is the shop open?” reads the Business Profile. Longer how-to questions want one spoken sentence, which is the same AEO block as a snippet.

Is AEO the same as GEO?
No. AEO is a lift-able answer in Google’s classic results and voice. GEO is a citation or mention inside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, or AI Overviews. Do both. Do not mix the names.
